Kamehameha Schools Kapālama
Kamehameha Schools was the legacy of Princess Bernice Pauahi, she was the great granddaughter of King Kamehameha I. Established in 1887, it was actually an all boys institution for native Hawaiians. It wasnʻt up until 1894 that Kamehameha Schools opened its doors for girls, the institution became a co-ed school with an boys campus and a girls campus. Each of the buildings on campus are named of great significance, each named after someone important in not only in Kamehameha I life but Pauahiʻs. For example, the first picture below is names Kina'u, named after Kamehameha Iʻs daughter. The mission of our school is to create educational opportunities for Hawaiian children, to perpetuate our culture, to help give them a successful future, and to overall create well-being human beings. Being part of Pauahiʻs legacy is something that I will forever be truly grateful for, she gave me the opportunity to create life-long friendships and one of the best educations that I can ask for, and for that I am forever indebted to her. The pictures below are just a few of the buildings of on our campus.
